The Tulsa Philharmonic ceased operations on September 12, 2002, citing tenuous financial conditions and the negotiation of a new collective bargaining agreement with Local 94, American Federation of Musicians, the union representing the Philharmonic's musicians.

The Board of Directors of the Tulsa Philharmonic had genuine hopes of finding a resolution to the problems precluding a late start of what would have been the Philharmonic's 54th concert season, but circumstances preclude any concerts from happening in the 2002-2003 season.  The Mayor's Community-Based Task Force on the Arts and its subcommittee members will continue their work to ensure the presence of a high quality orchestral ensemble for the greater Tulsa area, but not before the end of the 2002-2003 season.

Those who hold or have purchased tickets to Tulsa Philharmonic events in the 2002-2003 season will be receiving information by U.S. mail with an option for donating their tickets as a tax-deductible contribution.  Funds are not available for refunds.

With the goal of rebuilding an orchestral presence in Tulsa in mind, the support of all the Philharmonic's supporters, both longtime and new, continues to be needed through this transitional period.
